November 13, 2011 — Will we know who killed Amanda Lankey?

We may not, at least with the certainty we’d like.  Cecil Wallis, Sr., described as a person of interest in her murder, had been arrest and was due to be arraigned last Thursday on charges that he sexually assaulted two girls.  While had had the appointment before the court, he scheduled another for himself in the woods.  He is dead, likely at his own hand.  Here’s the story by Grand Rapids Press reporter John Tunison, and here’s a link to WZZM’ s reporting.

So, how can we know whether or not he had anything to do with the murder of 13-year-old Amanda Lankey?  It seems unlikely that we’ll never know with the certainty of an arrest and either confession or conviction.  But there was no guarantee of that happening, either.  Police say that are continuing their investigation.  For now we wait and then we’ll see.
