May 20, 2014 — Edit, edit, edit
Just a note. I think all the interviews are done for the story about the 1990 murder of Joel Battaglia in Eastown, Grand Rapids. So I have been sitting and editing since pretty much the start of this month…and it will go on until the film is shown June 11th at the Wealthy Street Theatre in Grand Rapids. (That is the closest screen to the site of the murder on Lake Drive.)
The editing process is always a challenge and I have again chosen the “direct cinema” approach…no narration; the participants advance it with their comments. It can take a little longer to tell the story that way, and as you might imagine, it can take a lot longer to edit such a story. And there is so much story there to tell that there may well be segments that aren’t in the film but do show up on the site, here. Bonus items or tracks? Well, not exactly. These are important parts, too.
I have a deadline, I have plenty of content…and then some. And I pray each day as I work on this that the story telling can do some credit to this wonderful young life, all too soon taken.
